  Things you've forgotten about babies

Dear Dave,

You're probably thinking you've got a month to go. You're probably thinking you've got plenty of time to do all those little jobs like get the crib back out the loft. You're probably even thinking you'll have a chance to pack Sam off to the grandparents for the weekend soon and you'll get to spend some quality time with Liz before all Hell breaks loose.

Look at it this way, though: By my calculations, you passed thirty-six weeks yesterday. If Squiggly turns up now, the hospital won't even count him/her/it as premature.

Hope you've got that bag packed.

Just to get you in the right frame of mind, here a few things you might have forgotten about babies in the last three years:

Now go and pack that bag.

Yours in a woman's world,

Ed.

Yes it's definately worth it. Despite the poo, vomit, stink which all your visitors point out, desperate lack of sleep, and worry that you're doing everything wrong: it is definately worth it.

P.S. When babies cry(that's WHEN they do),it doesn't mean that you are not doing your job. Babies cry. That's their job. It's what they are good at. It may mean that they are hungry, thirsty, need changed, are tired, are looking for attention, have been surpised by a new experience,or want a cuddle. Or just that they feel that they need to practise.

Yep, babies crying is not a bad thing. I'm not suggesting that a crying baby indicates failure. It's just that a lack of positive feedback (ie smiling) can be distressing for new parents during the first few weeks.

Then when they do start smiling it's not because they are happy,it's just an instinctive physical reaction, they are not really smiling apparently. Says someone who obviously remembers what it was like and has decided to spread his knowledge to any gullibles.
